Urgent Care
Is an appointment necessary?
No appointment is necessary when visiting the urgent care center. Patients in need of this service should simply arrive during posted hours and have the following with them:
- Current photo identification
- Payment
- Insurance card
What is the estimated wait time to be seen?
The amount of time that a person will have to wait to be seen in an urgent care facility will vary. In most cases, the average wait time is approximately 60 minutes. If the clinic is busier than unusual (meaning more patients are arriving to receive care), the wait time can be significantly longer. Urgent care patients are typically seen on a walk-in basis in the order they arrive. However, if a patient appears to have a more serious condition that requires immediate care (such as chest pains, uncontrollable bleeding, or trouble breathing) that patient may take priority. If the type of treatment needed is beyond what the urgent care facility offers, a patient may be transferred to the emergency room.
When to visit the emergency room
There are a number of concerns or issues that may go past the scope of a typical visit to an urgent care center, including:
- Trouble speaking
- A loss of consciousness
- Severe cases of asthma
- Symptoms of a heart attack
- A severe allergic reaction
- Weakness or numbness on one side of the body
- Overdose
- Poisoning
- Bleeding that is not able to be controlled
- Severe injuries
- Seizures
- Any problems that require police help or the evaluation or are of psychiatric services
- Rape
- Domestic Abuse
Obstetric and Pregnancy Problems
While some obstetric and pregnancy problems can be addressed effectively in an urgent care center, most issues related to OB problems will require ultrasound imaging as a part of the evaluation. Patients with pregnancy concerns should call the Granger Medical ultrasound department regarding its availability and operating hours prior to visiting an urgent care facility. Issues evaluated at the urgent care facility that requires a level of treatment beyond what the urgent care facility offers may be referred to the emergency room (by ambulance, if the situation requires).
