Susan E. Prater, MD
Family Medicine
Dr. Prater is a Utah native who grew up in Salt Lake City. She attended college at Columbia University in Manhattan and medical school in Albany, New York at Albany Medical College.
Dr. Prater believes in allowing the patients to tell their story. Education and preventative care are key parts of her practice. It is important to her that patients understand the treatment they are receiving. She takes her time to make sure that she is thorough and that her patient’s questions are answered. She has a special interest in the prevention and management of diabetes.
Other services she offers include: physicals, women’s health checks (including pap smears), contraception counseling, IUD placement, weight management, adolescent healthcare, hypertension management, mental health care, joint injections, and minor office procedures such as skin biopsies.
Dr. Prater has one loveable Labrador retriever named Durango who has been her pal since residency. She has nine nieces and nephews that she loves to spend time with. Dr. Prater’s mother is a registered nurse who was very influential in her decision to pursue a career in medicine. Her Grandmother was a registered dietician, a university professor and helped found Camp Utah – a camp for children with diabetes. Dr. Prater’s parents met while working at the camp.
Dr. Prater loves to spend time in the outdoors camping and stargazing. She loves to attend the theater and has been attending the Utah Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City since 1977. She also enjoys the ballet. She is a Disney fan and enjoys collecting pins when she visits the parks. She enjoys Indian and Chinese Cuisine.
